Evaluating the efficacy of phototherapy devices.
نویسنده
چکیده
The field of newborn phototherapy (PT) has clearly arrived at a strategic period of transition from the use of traditional light sources, such as fluorescent, halogen and halogen/fiberoptic, towards the use of presently fast developing, versatile solid state light emitting diode (LED) technology. The time also appears to be ripe for the replacement of ineffective, defective, and worn-out devices that deliver inadequate therapy, as has been demonstrated through recent surveys in India, Nigeria, and Brazil [1-3]. Because of a rapidly expanding global market for PT devices, the medical device industry, particularly in India, appears to be actively engaged in the production of newer and, undoubtedly, more effective and affordable LEDbased devices.

Mirror covered tunnel phototherapy increases the efficacy of phototherapy for neonatal jaundice
Objective: Neonatal jaundice (NJ) is one of the most common cause of neonatal hospital admission. Phototherapy is the main therapy for hyperbilirubinemia of neonatal jaundice. The efficacy of phototherapy depends on the dose and wavelength of light used and the surface area exposed. We increased photons in mirror covered tunnel phototherapy (MCTP) by putting mirrors behind...

متن کاملThe efficacy of phototherapy in treatment of resistant Atopic dermatitis
Background: Due to the chronic nature of atopic dermatitis and dependence of most patients to steroids, finding a suitable alternative treatment is important. Objectives: To determine the efficacy of phototherapy in treatment of atopic dermatitis, also to evaluate possible influencing factors in response of patients to psoralen+UVA (PUVA) therapy. Patients and Methods: 13 patients with resistan...
متن کاملAssement Efficacy and Complication of the Distance between Phototherapy Lamps and Neonate’s Body Level on Serum Bilirubin Decrease and Phototherapy Complications in Neonatal Hyperbilirubinemia
Background: Jaundice is one of the most leading causes of neonate hospitalization (51.8%) during the first four weeks of life, and phototherapy is one of the most common and safest methods for the treatment of jaundice. Different results have been obtained from the studies conducted on the investigation of factors affecting increased phototherapy effect on the reduction of neonatal jaundice. Ho...
متن کاملMist and water condensation inside incubators reduce the efficacy of phototherapy.
OBJECTIVE To measure the irradiance in humidified incubator under three different overhead phototherapy devices. DESIGN/METHODS The effective irradiance of three phototherapy devices was assessed by taking a series of irradiance measurements in the illuminated field. Measurements were made with a fixed bandwidth broadband radiometer (380-530 nm). The distance between the light source and the ...
